We've all heard of the bug out bag or 72 hour bag that you take along with during your bug out but what we're going to cover in this article is what makes the best bug out vehicle. You don't have to spend a $100,000 or more for a good bug out vehicle. I'm going to show you some different types of vehicles that I've found to be good fits, I'll also talk about what to look for in the best bug out vehicle. Then I'll share some upgrades and equipment you can outfit your rig with.
The Best Bug Out Vehicles
When you're trying to find the best bug out vehicle it all depends on your individual needs although there are a few recommendations I'll give you to help you decide. When I'm looking for a bug out vehicle I'm looking for something that's tough, I want to be able to drive this thing through hell and come out the other side. I really try and go for something that has good 4wd. I also want my bug out vehicle to have a good amount of cargo room for carrying any gear that I'll have. Another thing to think about is how many people are going to be traveling with you, it might be a good idea to find a vehicle that will hold at least 3 people.
To me a jeep is a great choice for a bug out vehicle, it can handle rugged terrain with its 4wd, has plenty of upgrades and equipment that can be added and it also has good storage capacity. I've personally heard from people who have said that they get around great so if you're planning on going into some rough land I would recommend this.
4 Wheel Drive Trucks
Another great choice for a bug out vehicle is a truck or pickup, I'm not going to go into what make of truck is the best here I'll leave that to you guys in the comment section. Again you're going to want good 4wd drive to help get you around in rough terrain. With a pickup as your bug out vehicle you also get the option of having a crew cab so you can fit more passengers. An obvious perk of having a pickup is the bed which you can put a topper on as well to keep your gear out of the elements.
4 Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive SUVs
SUVs can be a great bug out vehicle if you plan on taking extra passengers, a lot of them can hold up to eight people. If you wanted to sacrifice passenger space for cargo room most SUVs allow you to fold down the back seat. You can also buy lots of different upgrades and equipment for them to make them an even better choice for a bug out vehicle.
Bug Out Vehicle Upgrades
No matter what vehicle you deem as your bug out vehicle you're going to want some upgrades for them. Cargo racks are a great addition to your rig, they allow you to carry a good deal of gear. They also make fuel tank holders so that you can take along some extra fuel. In addition to those you might be inclined to get a grill guard for the front end or a reinforced bumper. You could also invest in some extra lights to help light up the way when you're bugging out. Nilight makes some great ones at a descent price your can find here. One more upgrade that I recommend people look into getting is a winch that you can find on amazon. They cost a little bit of money but are well worth the investment.
I hope this helps you find the best bug out vehicle, just keep these things in mind while you select one and you'll be fine. If you have any upgrades or vehicles that you think would work good too feel free to include them in the comment section below. Thanks for reading and check back soon for even more articles.
