The Ontario RAT-1 is an amazing knife to have for the price it can be purchased at. It offers a great level of versatility with the 4-way pocket clip that it sports. The AUS-8 SS blade comes razor sharp possibly the sharpest blade out of the box I've received. Overall the Ontario RAT model 1 is a great folder for every day carry.

Ontario RAT 1 Blade:
As I mentioned before the blade of the Ontario RAT 1 is one of the sharpest I've received out of the box. It's made of AUS-8 Stainless Steel which is a good budget steel it offers ease of sharpening as well as decent corrosion and wear resistance.
Another great knife sporting this steel is the Ka-Bar Dozier.
The blade is a bit long coming in at 3.625 inches but offers plenty of cutting edge.
There is also some jimping along the spine of the blade, which is fairly deep but the edges of the jimping have been rounded off so it isn't overly aggressive.
It's a simple drop point style of blade with a full flat grind adding to the simplicity of the knife. The RAT 1 is able to serve a variety of tasks, from tactical applications to heavy EDC use.
You can find the blade in either a satin finish or with a black coating but a lot of people including myself find that these black coatings tend to wear off over time so for that reason I went with the satin finish which I find to be pretty attractive.
The thumb studs offer good leverage for deploying the blade even with one hand. There are studs on either side of the blade which allows lefties to deploy it as well. They are textured some what too which is great otherwise I feel like my thumb would slip and I'd lose a bit of leverage.

Ontario RAT 1 Handle:
Like the blade the handle is also a little on the big side but comfortable and ergonomic at the same time.
The scales are made of G10 with some light texturing, nothing fancy just some small checkering. I find it to be maybe slightly under textured myself.
The pocket clip can be worn tip up or down, and both left and right handed, it's an extremely versatile design allowing it to work comfortably for anyone.
It does come with a lanyard hole but it's a little on the small side of what I'd like to see in a knife, but not a deal breaker by any means, I typically don't use a lanyard on my knives anyways, but for those who do this could be something to look at.
The Ontario RAT 1 is a liner lock knife with some shallow jimping on the locking lever, allowing you to get a good grip on the lever with out having an edge dig into your thumb.
The finish on the RAT Model 1 is smooth, there aren't any burs or uneven spots, and the blade centers very well within the handle.

Final Thoughts On the Ontario RAT 1
Overall this is an excellent knife for the price that you pay. You get several options to choose from, and the versatility of the knife is outstanding which means lefties will have no problems using this knife.
The knife is a little bit on the big side both in length and weight, depending on what kind of knife you're looking to purchase this could be a detriment or exactly what you're looking for. It's a robust knife capable of doing some demanding tasks and living to tell about them.
I highly recommend this knife to anyone who is needing an EDC blade that will see some heavy use. It won't break the bank either so if it does get damaged or lost it won't be the end of the world.
